Don't know quite what to say about this one... ummm. This is one I wouldn't put on my wall. At least here in Texas, i don't know about you northerner's i guess ;-)
This work I definitely would put on my wall - to evoke my time spent working in China post Cultural revolution. Not to mention the fact that (a) it's superbly composed - right moment, right position and expression of young soldier (b) beautiful surface texture, tone, focus, (c) framing - nice finishing touch.
If you'd care to reveal the secrets of your technique, we'd be all ears ...
Beautiful work, Nat.

@Sidonie: Thank you Sidonie. It's a high compliment coming from you.
Excellent...excellent post! You can read so much into the young soldier's face, esp with that title. Beautifully framed and timed. I'd be very proud of this one!
RYC: I took your advice re the bird pic. Please be gentle with your critique! ;-)
Wonderful composition and details. I like the guy's expression. Feels like he's not sure about doing this job.

@Nicola: That's exactly the feeling that I was thinking when I shot this image. "This guy has no idea what he's standing for, or he knows and is wondering why he still does it..."
It tells something about that country, a devotion to authority whether or not for political good, a history that only they can evoke through images of culture and appeal.
